Wheatland Auto Accident and Personal Injury Lawyer
Located about twelve miles southeast of Marysville, California, Wheatland is a small city in the heart of Northern California. For such a small town (currently only around 2,300 residents located in an area approximately one square mile) there is a surprising amount of history and attractiveness to the area. Discover what makes Wheatland such a unique place and why someone may want to live or visit this attractive community.History of Wheatland
Wheatland is located on the area that was designated part of the country from a Mexican land grant. This area was considered the gateway to the gold rush, so many who were traveling to gold areas passed through Wheatland. The post office in Wheatland opened in 1866, and the town was officially incorporated in 1874. The first black man to be elected mayor of a Western U.S city was Edward Duplex, the mayor of Wheatland in 1888. Later, in 1913 a major farm labor dispute occurred in the town. This was called the Hop Riot of 1913. Four men lost their lives that day. Today, Wheatland is a more peaceful place, but residents still remember the historical significance of this event.Living in Wheatland
While Wheatland may not be a huge traveler’s mecca, there are plenty of reasons why someone would choose to call this area home. The city is served by its own school system, the Wheatland Union School district which operates the three primary and two secondary schools in the city. These schools achieve above average rankings and test scores, making them a trustworthy place for residents to send their kids.
There are a few jobs in the city of Wheatland itself, but the majority of residents commute--either to Marysville that is just a short trip north or down to Sacramento. Even though the drive to the city can be lengthy, it is not too bad considering that much of the commute is on less populated roads making it not much longer than a drive from those who come from closer-in suburbs.
The draw for many to the city of Wheatland is the beautiful climate, more laid-back atmosphere and sense of community that can be found living in a smaller town. While all this is true, the city is still a short enough drive from Sacramento that whether you’re a fan of music, fine dining, sports or culture, you can get your fill by visiting California’s state capital.Caution While Driving in and Around Wheatland
When you live or visit a smaller town like Wheatland, it can be easy to let your guard down when you’re behind the wheel. That could be a serious mistake. While there are no crazy traffic jams or highly-dangerous intersections in the town, there are other dangers of which you should be aware of. Unfortunately, there are accidents caused by carelessness, distracted driving, driving under the influence and even because there are more than a few tractor trailers on the road. Whether you drive a car, truck, motorcycle or any other vehicle, you should take the same care on the roads of Wheatland as you would in the city. What to Do If You Are In an Accident in Wheatland
First and foremost, try not to panic. While getting into a car accident can be scary and dangerous, keeping your cool is important. If possible, gather information about the crash including the other driver, witnesses, and pictures. Contact a police officer right away to get details of the accident in writing.
Obtain any medical care needed. Even if you’re not sure you need to go to the hospital, if you have any pain or just feel shaken up, go ahead and go. Getting details from a medical professional later could be important for a legal case if it becomes necessary.
Once you’re medically stable, your next call should be to a Wheatland Car Accident Lawyer. You do not want to talk to an insurance agent or really anyone about your case without getting advice from your lawyer first. Take this step to protect yourself and your case.
