Injured by Hit and Run Driver in Sacramento?
Q. My son was struck by a hit and run driver while he was crossing the street. We called the police but they have not found the other driver. Do I have any recourse at all for my son? His bills are over $50,000.
A. Yes, there are several potential sources of recovery.
First, if you own a car, your family’s Uninsured Motorist coverage on the car may and usually does cover you son when he was crossing the street as a pedestrian. Most auto insurance policies have uninsured motorist coverage and your son would be covered up to the amount of your uninsured motorist policy limits. It’s important, however, that you report the accident to your insurance and the police as soon as possible.
Additionally, You may have what’s known as Medpay on your auto insurance. Typically, most auto insurance policies have $5,000 to $25,000 Medpay. This would help to pay his medical bills.
Finally, the California Victims of Crime Law may help cover expenses incurred while in commission of a crime (Hit and Run).
