Elk Grove Airbag Recall
Motorists in Elk Grove, California, like many others in Northern California and all across the United States, may find themselves at the center of one of the most massive and complicated product recalls in history.
Automotive air bag maker Takata in May announced a national recall of certain types of air bag inflators on both driver and passenger sides of vehicles. The problem was that the inflators were made with a propellant that could degrade over time. This could lead to ruptures in the air bag system and sudden and unexpected inflation. The failure of the air bags has been named the culprit for more than 100 injuries and 7 deaths worldwide.
Takata and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have teamed to sponsor a website where you can find out if you own a vehicle that is impacted by the recall. To find out if you own such a vehicle, all you have to do is go to the website, and type in your Vehicle Identification number into the VIN lookup tool located at http://www.safecar.gov.
The recall affects 34 million vehicles and 11 different manufacturers. A complete list of all the makes affected by the massive recall is available at the NHTSA VIN Lookup Tool https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/.
