Cameron Park Wrongful Death Lawyer

CandlesIf you are reading this webpage, you may have recently lost somebody that you love as the result of a sudden, preventable accident. People who’ve been affected by these accidents often experience profound grief that may feel confusing or even overwhelming. On top of dealing with grief, many people affected by deadly accidents face serious financial issues. In many cases, these issues leave families unsure of how they’ll be able to move forward with their lives after experiencing such a tragic loss.

As a Cameron Park wrongful death lawyer, it is my job to work with people who’ve been affected by deadly accidents and help them recover their personal and financial wellbeing.

Focus on Serious Accidents

Often, law firms will accept many different kinds of cases, hoping to cast a large net and take on as many clients as they possibly can. However, we only practice injury law and solely take cases that involve either wrongful death or critical injuries. Because we have over thirty years in this business, our lawyers are experts when it comes to wrongful death claims.

While we typically only handle major injury or wrongful death cases, we have experience dealing with different types of accidents. Fatal accidents types that we handle include:

The “Personal” Personal Injury Lawyer

My team and I have been assisting people in our community for a very long time. During this time, I have earned the above nickname. People call me the “personal” personal injury lawyer because I run my practice holistically and focus on connecting with the people I represent on a personal level.

Many lawyers prefer to keep a strictly professional tone when dealing with their clients, keeping them at an arm’s length. While this approach can work for some, I believe that practicing empathy and taking an interest in my clients’ lives helps me to better understand just how deeply they’ve been affected by their injuries or by the death of their loved one. This understanding allows me to be more effective during settlement negotiations and while presenting cases in court.

Fatal Accidents in El Dorado County

Even though many areas of El Dorado County are rural, there is still plenty of traffic in the area. Unfortunately, vehicle traffic always presents the risk of deadly car accidents. According to data reported by traffic agencies including the California Highway Patrol and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, there were 8,081 traumatic car crashes in the county between the years of 2008 and 2020. Out of these 8,081 accidents, 231 involved a fatal injury, resulting in 291 fatalities.

The majority of these collisions happened on either county-operated or municipal roads while about 43 percent occurred on state highways. Additionally, these fatal collisions included 17 pedestrian crashes, 6 bicycle accidents, and 51 motorcycle wrecks. Notably, motorcycle accidents accounted for nearly 20 percent of all fatal collisions across the county. Furthermore, over half of these fatal collisions were hit-object accidents. The next most common fatal accident type was head-on collisions, which only accounted for about 15 percent of the crashes in question.

Dealing with Grief

Losing somebody that you love is never easy. However, a fatal accident can be even more difficult to cope with because they are unexpected. The impact of such a loss can be immense and grieving individuals often feel confused, angry, lost, and shocked. While coping with grief can be overwhelming, many people are able to process their emotions with the support of their friends, family, and communities.

Recoverable Damages

Sadly, families dealing with the effects of fatal accidents often face very serious financial issues. While it’s impossible to ever replace someone you love, it is possible to seek compensation from at-fault parties and insurance companies following fatal accidents. Often, liable parties can be held responsible for economic damages and well as personal losses. Economic damages include things like lost income, household services, medical bills, and other items with easily identifiable prices. Personal suffering damages include things that are difficult to define economically such as lost companionship, parental guidance, and more.

Finding A Lawyer You Can Trust

Wrongful death cases can be critical for families. For this reason, it is very important to know that your lawyer is trustworthy and will handle your case effectively. To make sure that your lawyer is competent, you should look for a couple of key factors. These include:

  • History - Your lawyer should be an expert with a proven track record. To find out about your lawyer’s history, you can go on their website and look at the settlements and verdicts they have obtained in the past. If these aren’t listed on your lawyers’ website, they should be happy to tell you all about their history of successful advocacy.
  • Reputation - Another important thing to research is your attorney’s reputation in their community. Thankfully, you can easily find out what people think about an attorney by looking them up on popular review websites like Yelp, Avvo, or Google.
  • Resources - Handling a major lawsuit requires money and time. Many small law firms simply don’t have the resources necessary to deal with a high-value case. One great way to check whether or not your attorney is prepared to do everything they can for your case is to ask whether or not they would be comfortable taking your case to trial.
