On Thursday, December 31, 2020, a collision in Grass Valley left one person with fatal injuries. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that this accident involved three vehicles, including a motorhome and one of the drivers involved in the accident has been placed under arrest in relation to the incident. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office has identified the decedent as Jana Price, a 56-year-old woman from Grass Valley. In addition to Price, one other person suffered injuries.

Crash Information

The crash happened at 11:11 p.m. on Highway 49, not far from Grass Valley. A Grass Valley man was driving a 35-foot Freightliner Discovery motorhome on the highway southbound when his vehicle traveled over the median and into northbound traffic. The motorhome eventually collided head-on with a 2011 Nissan Altima, driven by Price.

The impact of the collision pushed the smaller vehicle off-road, and the Nissan careened down a nearby embankment. After the first crash, the motorhome struck a second northbound vehicle, reportedly a 2010 Dodge Charger. The Charger rolled over as a result.

Response

Responders were immediately sent to the scene. When they arrived, they discovered that Price had sustained critical injuries. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased at the location. The driver of the Dodge was found to have suffered injuries and was transported to the Roseville hospital for treatment and further injury screening. No other individuals besides the RV driver were reported to have been involved in the collision.

The RV driver was placed under arrest at the accident scene and booked into the Nevada County Jail. According to reports, the man faces a charge of murder based on a history of reckless driving convictions.

A Life Remembered

Price had been a mother of four children as well as a survivor of the Camp Fire that burned down the city of Paradise in 2018. Price was also a front-line medical worker at the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital and was reportedly returning from work on the night of the tragic accident. Family members who spoke to reporters indicated that they are hoping “justice will be served” following this incident.
