Choosing the Best Sacramento Hospital for Your Needs

Hospital

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Personal Injury Lawyer. When our law office meets with new clients, they often tell us about the quality of care they receive from local hospitals, doctors, and other healthcare providers. They also frequently voice concerns about where they must go next to obtain further surgical or rehabilitative care after their doctors tell them that their initial hospital may not be suited for their needs. Sometimes, clients simply want to obtain care closer to their homes.

To provide my clients and others with more information about the highest-ranked hospitals in the Sacramento area, I’ve put together the following summaries. I chose these specific hospitals because they’ve recently been ranked the highest by U. S. News & World Reports. You should be able to obtain treatment for every major medical need at any of them.

Hospital Ranked # 1 in Sacramento Area: UC Davis Medical Center

The University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento ranked top. U. S. News & World Report states that the UC Davis Medical Center is nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties. According to the hospital’s website, those specialties include cancer and oncology; cardiology and heart surgery; ear, nose, and throat; endocrinology and diabetes; gynecology; geriatrics; neurology, and neurosurgery; nephrology; pulmonology; orthopedics; and urology.

This medical center was also highly ranked in five pediatric specialties: nephrology, neonatology, endocrinology, and diabetes — and, along with its partner Shriners Hospital for Children – urology and orthopedics. UC Davis Medical has also been recognized as a high-performing medical provider in other categories.

This medical center operates the only Level One Trauma Center for pediatric and adult emergencies in inland northern California area. Founded in 1973, this hospital currently offers 627 licensed beds. The facility’s research and annual funding are among the highest in California. Its current address in Sacramento is 2315 Stockton Boulevard.

Hospital Ranked # 2 in Sacramento Area: Sutter Medical Center

Located at 2825 Capitol Avenue in Sacramento, this downtown medical center comprises the Anderson Lucchetti Women’s & Children’s Center and the Ose Adams Medical Pavilion. Other specialized facilities, including the Sutter Center for Psychiatry, are located elsewhere in the city.

This medical center is part of Sutter Health — Northern California’s largest network of acute-care hospitals. In one of its online fact sheets, the facility states that its high ranking is mainly based on its attention to patient safety, mortality rates, nurse staffing practices, general reputation, and advanced use of technology.

Sutter Medical has been recognized as a “high performer” in four specialties: cancer, orthopedics, neurology/neurosurgery, and gynecology. It also provides a very considerable amount of charity care to the community. Its Comprehensive Epilepsy Center has been recognized as a Level 4 Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

This facility began first serving the Sacramento community back in 1923.

Sacramento’s “Number Three” Ranked Hospital is Shared by Two Area Facilities

S. News & World Report decided that two Sacramento hospitals should share the rank of “Number Three” in this part of the state. Those two facilities are Mercy General Hospital and Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center

Mercy General Hospital

This facility currently offers 342 beds to the public and may be best known for its Stroke Center, that’s been fully certified by the Joint Commission. It has been recognized as one of the nation’s 100 best hospitals for the past two years.

Mercy General proudly offers patients treatment in its CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities) Acute Rehab Unit. This hospital is run by Dignity Health (headquartered in San Francisco) – the nation’s fifth-largest health system and California’s most prominent hospital provider. It runs a certified Chest Pain Center with PCI, among other special programs.

The hospital is incredibly proud of its treatment offerings for cancer, nephrology, pulmonology, geriatrics, and cardiology. Mercy General also acts as a strong advocate and provider for the poor and underserved in the Sacramento area. It has been serving the community at its current location since 1925. Its address is 4001 “J” Street in Sacramento – at the intersection of “J” Street and 39th Street.

Kaiser Permanente Roseville

Although this hospital has not been nationally ranked in any specialties, its website notes that it provides patients with specialty care in the following medical areas: cancer, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, and urology.

Kaiser Permanente Roseville is also fully equipped to offer patients surgical care for lung and colon cancer. It also treats individuals suffering from heart failure who need knee and hip replacements, who are battling COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and other general medical conditions. This facility is located at 1600 Eureka Road in Roseville, California.
